Endorsements for Bloomsbury Foundations 1 (3rd edition)

I think the new format and the colour make the book fresher and even more appealing. I love the additions such as the recorded glossary, new icons, tips on language learning, and especially the interactive ebook – they will all benefit the students’ language learning and cultural knowledge enormously. I’m looking forward to exploring the online materials. Thanks also for adding the imperfect tense- we had already included it into our syllabus. I’ve noticed that there seem to be more reading passages too, which are welcome. And finally thanks for changing the front cover from a muddy brown to delicious food!

-Marisa Marmo, University of Nottingham

I particularly like this course book because it is specifically designed for a broad variety of learners, both specialists and non-specialists. Both the teaching/learning approach and the didactic activities are very communicative and student-centred and there is a good balance of activities aimed at practising and strengthening all of the four language skills required by the CEFR. This third edition has improved the Use of Language section with more structured consolidation activities. As a result, learners enjoy the activities in class and at the same time have room for self-study and improvement in a clearer and more structure-focused way. The length of the course book is ideal for my ULS 1 Italian (22 lessons in total over two semesters). The adoption of colours makes this course book more enjoyable (I did not particularly like the previous choice of a total black-and-white format).

I have used Italian 1 by Macmillan for many years in my classes and I have always received excellent feedback from my students. The new layout in colour makes it more appealing and even easier to navigate through. I particularly like the accessibility and the clarity of the book. The topics and the activities are presented in a clear and logical manner, with precise instructions, and are very well supported by the online material. The grammar sections and the glossario at the end of each unit are very useful to consolidate what the students have learnt implicitly. An excellent book to teach and learn Italian at university level.
