War and Warfare

The Culture section of this component allows you to study war and warfare in ancient Athens, ancient Sparta and ancient Rome; in each case there is a focus on the role the military played in society, and the events of especially famous campaigns and battles.

The Literature section of this component invites you to read the works of four ancient authors who describe war and warfare in the ancient world: Homer, Tyrtaeus, Horace, and Virgil.
