Applying the Sociological Focus

Chapter 8

Changing one’s social class is not only about changing one’s income or wealth, but also about changing one’s lifestyle. Write a few sentences about whether it is possible to change one’s lifestyle (i.e., language, gestures). Then, watch “How to Marry the Rich” (6:50) from PBS’s People Like Us (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvibi2Cph-E). While watching, you should make note of all of the different aspects of an upper class lifestyle that are being taught. Now, reflect on your own class lifestyles. Can you identify aspects of your life that are a result of your class position?
