Sprite Sheets and character design:

2d based games and early character design concept work normally has characters drawn in several poses. In 2d games these poses become refined and are developed into a “Sprite Sheet”. A sprite sheet is all of the poses that a player would see animated for the character and enemies in the game. For example the hero “Molly” facing left, facing right, crouching, running, jumping and so on. Simple sprite sheets were used in early NES games but can now include thousands of drawings.

Here are some simple sprite sheets my students created for mobile based games. They are enough to be used in a prototype of a game.
