Chapter 7 investigates the development of drama in Athens from the 6th to the 4th centuries BCE. It begins with the origins of drama as they are traditionally understood, and then moves on to examining the use of space in the theatre building, followed by the City Dionysia festival. It finishes with a look at the two main forms of drama – tragedy and comedy.
