Political history is a relevant and important subject to think about. By studying how governments functioned in the past and the reasons for their success (or failure), we can gain a greater insight into our own system of government. We can then change it for the better – hopefully!
 
This particular depth study will give you the opportunity to study a fascinating and decisive episode in ancient Greek political history. You will also get to read the works of some of the greatest historians to have survived from the Greek and Roman periods (including Herodotus and Thucydides) and to develop the skills used by historians of all periods.

Correction to the print edition pp. 142-3

Please note that the Study questions in the bottom left hand corner of p. 142 ("Remind yourself of the purpose of Plutarch’s work . . .") should be attempted after students have answered the study questions at the top of p. 143 ("Read Plutarch Life of Aristides 4.1-5 (PS) and answer the following questions").

It was not possible to make this change during the production stage of the book. However, it would be beneficial for students to attempt the specific questions about Plutarch’s Life of Aristides 4 on p. 143 before looking at the more general questions on this section (and indeed on the text as a whole) which are to be found on p. 142.
