About the Author

Jonathan D. Raskin earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Vassar College and his Ph.D. from the APA-accredited counseling psychology program at the University of Florida. His doctoral training was completed with a one-year, APA-approved internship at Emory University’s Counseling Center. Dr. Raskin has been in his current faculty position at the State University of New York at New Paltz since 1996. At SUNY New Paltz, Dr. Raskin teaches in the psychology undergraduate program and the counselor education graduate program. He began a term as chair of the Psychology Department in 2017. He also maintains an active private practice as a psychologist.

In the course of his academic career, Dr. Raskin has authored or co-authored more than thirty journal articles, as well as twenty book chapters. Among the topics he has written about are constructions of abnormality, attitudes toward psychiatric diagnosis, and meaning-oriented approaches to counseling and psychotherapy. Dr. Raskin has co-edited six books: Constructions of Disorder: Meaning-Making Frameworks for Psychotherapy (published by the American Psychological Association) and all five volumes of the Studies in Meaning book series (published by Pace University Press). He holds appointments on several journal editorial boards and serves as managing editor for the Journal of Constructivist Psychology. A fellow of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Raskin has received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and the Research and Scholarship Award from the SUNY Research Foundation.
