About the Authors
John Bratton is a Visiting Professor at Edinburgh Napier University Business School, Edinburgh, UK and Adjunct Professor at Athabasca University, Canada. His research interests and publications have focused on the sociology of work, leadership and workplace learning. He has designed and delivered a wide range of seminars, programmes and executive workshops on strategic learning and labour relations over a career spanning 30 years. John was the first Director of the Workplace Learning Research Unit at the University of Calgary, Canada, and has been a member of the editorial board of Leadership, the Journal of Workplace Learning and the Canadian Journal for the Study of Adult Education.
In addition to co-authoring the present text, John is author of Japanization of Work: Managerial Studies in the 1990s (1992) and Introduction to Work and Organizational Behaviour (3rd edn) (2015), and co-author of the following texts: Workplace Learning: A Critical Introduction (2003; with J. Helm-Mills, J. Pyrch and P. Sawchuk); Organizational Leadership (2004; with K. Grint and D. Nelson) and Capitalism and Classical Social Theory (2nd edn; 2014) (with David Denham).
Jeff Gold is Professor of Organization Learning at York Business School, York St John University and Visiting Professor at Portsmouth University, UK. He has designed and delivered a wide range of seminars, programmes and workshops on change, strategic learning, management and leadership, with particular emphasis on participation and distribution. He is a strong advocate of the use of action modes of research to ensure that rigour is combined with relevance with respect to significant projects to tackle complex business and social issues. He is the co-author of The Sage Handbook of Professional Doctorates in Business and Management with Dr Lisa Anderson, Professor Jim Stewart and Professor Richard Thorpe.
