Formal internships and placements, in each job area, are advertised on a wide range of websites. Firms in some sectors such as accountancy advertise numerous organised placements whilst many in other industries such as publishing expect you to apply on spec.
Internships are offered at every level of education from before you attend Uni to after you’ve graduated however, you should try to secure a formal position by the summer holidays at the end of your penultimate year of study, so you can refer to it in your applications for graduate jobs.
