Welcome to the Bloomsbury Online Instructor Resources for Foundations of Education, 2nd edition by Maike Ingrid Philipsen and Hillary Parkhouse!

Foundations of Education introduces the major topics and debates in contemporary American education, including teaching as a profession, school governance, social class, gender, and disabilities. The 2nd edition includes two new chapters on race and ethnicity, and immigration and language, and each of the other chapters have been thoroughly updated to respond to the latest research and events.
For each chapter, you’ll find the following resources:
  1. Two lesson plans (one for the historical background section and one for the contemporary conditions section)
  2. A slide deck covering the entire chapter
  3. A self-assessment with multiple choice questions and an answer key
  4. A glossary of key terms and definitions
To assist in developing companion materials—including lesson plan ideas, assessment questions, slide decks, and the glossary—we utilized Google Gemini under Virginia Commonwealth University’s enterprise license for data security. All prompts were grounded directly in the chapter manuscripts, and all generated content was thoroughly reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors for accuracy and consistency with the textbook.
